Your MacBook’s battery is likely one of the first components that you will need to replace in your computer. The lifespan of your Mac’s battery will depend on a variety of factors including how often you use your Mac and the environment that you use it in.

For tips on how to increase the lifespan of your MacBook, read our blog post here.

A battery replacement is a great way to bring new life to an older Mac. In this post we will discuss how to determine if your Mac is due for a battery replacement, how to get your Mac serviced, and how to recycle your battery.

How to Tell if You Need a Battery Replacement

How do you check your Mac battery health? Your computer’s battery only lasts a set number of cycles that vary depending on your MacBook model. When your computer reaches the maximum cycle count - you will notice a drop in battery performance.

Eventually, you’ll need to decide whether you want to continue to use your laptop through corded power only, or purchase a new battery from Apple or a battery repair.

Understanding Cycle Counts

You do not exhaust a cycle count each time you charge your computer’s battery - and this is important! If your MacBook battery is at 40% and you recharge it, you still have 60% left on the current charge. If you then charge your battery at 50%, you leave 10% in the cycle - meaning you have gone over two days before exhausting the cycle.

Read our blog post to learn how to find your Mac’s cycle count here. Looking at this information will allow you to check your battery health on your Mac and determine if you need to service or replace your battery on your Mac.
